Price Gouging in Oregon, 2020 Edition

An interactive map of excessive price complaints lodged with the Oregon Dept. of Justice

Responding to the coronavirus situation in Oregon, the Oregon Department of Justice created a new hotline to report price gouging on March 16th, 2020. To better understand the reports coming in I've started to map all new excessive price complaints as they appear on the department's website.

Unfortunately I've had to stop updating this map. Discussions with ODOJ have revealed that their data search is not flexible enough to find updates on complaints as they're processed.

How was this map created?

After manually saving the excessive price complaints from the ODOJ website, I read and process them using R, keeping only the reports that have address information and are within the department's jurisdiction. The reports are geocoded using the Google Geocoding API and mapped using Leaflet.
